Michigan State Police said six people were found dead after a shooting in Missaukee County, including the suspect, Chad Hickman. Another person was critically injured after troopers were called to a residence on LaChance Road around 11:40 in the morning.
The first officers found three people dead and one other person critically injured at the home. Investigators later found another dead person near a wooded area by Whitlock Lake and one more inside a separate residence.

MSP Public Information Officer Lt. Ashley Miller said the case had become a multi-scene investigation. She also said there was no threat to the public and that police were still patrolling the community and responding to calls for service.
“Not only is this difficult for our investigators and our troopers, but it's very hard for this community. You know, this type of loss is tragic,” MSP Public Information Officer Lt. Ashley Miller said. “And we're going to conduct a thorough investigation and we want to make sure to keep our community members up to date on our current situation and what we're discovering throughout this process.”
Whitlock Lake and LaChance Road
Police said the dead included Hickman, who was found after the shooting. The sequence of findings on LaChance Road, near Whitlock Lake, and inside the separate residence turned the case into a broader search across more than one scene.
Miller said there was no threat to the public, even as patrols continued. For Missaukee County residents, that means the immediate police response remained active while investigators worked through the separate locations tied to the shooting.
The case now turns on how the scenes connect and what investigators uncover as they continue the thorough investigation Miller described.
