Nancy Grace is drawing attention to newly released video of Jamie Komoroski crying in a May 2023 jailhouse call with her father after the crash that killed Samantha Hutchinson and injured Aric. The call came about a month after the Folly Beach, South Carolina, collision and months before Komoroski received a 25-year prison sentence in December 2024.
May 2023 Jailhouse Call
In the recorded call, Komoroski said, “I still just don’t know why this had to happen to me,” and, “I just can’t believe this happened to me. Why me, Dad, why me?” She also said, “I’m just scared, dad,” and, “I don’t want to go away for so, so long.”
Charles tried to calm her down. He told her, “Because bad things happen to good people, honey,” and added, “It’s just something that happened to you, and we are going to deal with it as best as we can, okay.” When Komoroski said the media was heavily involved, he replied that her case “sold newspapers.”
Folly Beach Crash
The video lands inside a case that already ended with Komoroski pleading guilty to felony DUI, two counts of DUI causing great bodily injury or death, and reckless homicide. The crash involved her Toyota rental car, which was traveling at 65 mph when it hit the golf cart carrying Samantha Hutchinson and Aric.
Hutchinson, 34, was pronounced dead at the scene. Aric, 36, was hospitalized with facial injuries. Komoroski later told one cop, “I just wanna like, get this over with and go home.”
Komoroski’s Guilty Plea
The newly released footage adds a direct account from Komoroski months before sentencing, and it complicates the version of events she presented in custody. In the call, she described herself as scared and worried about backlash, while the case record ties her to a fatal DUI crash and the guilty plea that followed.
Charles closed the call by telling her, “Well, listen, we’re doing everything we can.” The footage now sits alongside the later 25-year sentence and leaves one practical question hanging over the case: why the call video was released now.
