A 20-year-old woman was pulled from under a flooded bridge in Sabino Canyon on Thursday morning after a Sabino Canyon rescue that began just before 8 a.m. She had been trapped underwater for several minutes after falling off her bike while a family of three tried to cross the waterway.

The Pima County Sheriff’s Department said family members and good Samaritans pulled her out and performed CPR until she regained consciousness. Deputies arrived shortly after and helped get her out of the drainage area.
Sabino Canyon is in the Santa Catalinas Mountains just northeast of Tucson, and the department used the rescue to warn against trying to cross flooded washes in any way. It said people should never attempt to cross flooded washes on a bike, in a vehicle, or on foot.

“PCSD reminds our community: Never attempt to cross flooded washes, whether on a bike, in a vehicle, or on foot,” the department said. It added, “Fast‑moving water is extremely dangerous and puts you and first responders at risk.”
The woman and one other person were transported to a nearby hospital in stable condition. The account leaves one practical question open for the people involved: what condition the other transported person was in after the rescue.
