Disney set the Frozen 3 release date for Nov. 24, 2027, pushing the film into theaters a year later than the original 2026 plan. The first look arrived at the D23 fan event, where Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad and Jonathan Groff were back in the franchise’s main voice cast.

That date now gives Disney a fixed landing spot for a sequel that has already been moved once. The shift from 2026 to 2027 is the practical news for viewers tracking the film: the wait is longer, but the studio is signaling that Frozen 3 is still moving forward on a set theatrical timetable.
The first two Frozen films set the commercial bar high, with 2013’s Frozen earning $1.28 billion and Frozen II taking in $1.45 billion. Against that backdrop, Disney is not treating the third film like a routine follow-up; it is being spaced out as a major theatrical event rather than rushed to market.

Kristen Bell appeared hand-in-hand with Idina Menzel on the D23 stage before singing, and she said, “Anna and Elsa are going on their biggest journey yet.” Bell also said, “this royal wedding has been a long time coming.” Those two lines point to the same takeaway: Anna and Kristoff’s marriage is part of the story, not a side note.
Idina Menzel added, “We will find ourselves far from Arendelle in wild and dangerous land,” which gives the first-look footage a clearer direction. The movie is not staying locked inside the familiar setting; the story is being pushed outward, and that broader reach matches the franchise’s scale.
Josh Gad on 2027
Josh Gad addressed the delay more directly in 2025, saying, “There’s a reason the movie is coming out in 2027 and that is because no one wants to rush this. Everyone wants this to not just be a sequel or a money grab. They want this to be absolutely worthy of the story we set out to make in 2013.” He added, “We want to give audiences something that is worth the years of waiting and years of anticipation. I know that they are actively working on that and I know that they have a story that they are very, very, very excited about.”
That framing matches Disney’s decision to hold back the release rather than force a faster turnaround. Former Disney CEO Bob Iger had already said Frozen 4 was in development, but it has not been dated, so the company is building the franchise with room between installments instead of stacking them together.
The first-look footage also introduced a new villain speaking the line, “The sisters of Arrendale, we finally meet.” Disney has not dated Frozen 4, but for now the more immediate question is simpler: who that villain is, and how much farther Anna and Elsa are being sent beyond Arendelle before Frozen 3 reaches theaters on Nov. 24, 2027.
