Zac Jackson on the role split
Zac Jackson wrote that "The team believes Concepcion will be the primary punt returner in the regular season, but Larvadain and Floriea will each get preseason opportunities in the punt return game". That detail matters because it turns the Browns' return game into a live audition, with Concepcion already sitting at the front of the line while the other options get their own chance to take work off him before the games count.
The Browns selected Concepcion in the first round, so this is not a depth-chart footnote. It is a usage decision for a player expected to be part of the offense, and it gives the team a way to build special-teams value without waiting for a separate roster move.
Texas A&M numbers
Concepcion's return case is backed by his last season at Texas A&M, where he had 26 punt returns for 456 yards and 2 touchdowns. He also produced 61 receptions for 919 yards and 9 touchdowns, which is the clearest sign that the Browns are not asking him to be a pure specialist; they are trying to stack responsibilities on the same player.
Todd Monken and Andrew Berry both drew a line from Concepcion to Zay Flowers after the 2026 NFL Draft. Monken said, "There are some traits that are similar to (Flowers)" and later added, "But I love when people spoke about KC, it reminded me of Zay in that, in terms of how he practiced, what he brings in every day." Berry said, "I do think there are some similarities [to Flowers] in terms of movement skills, the twitch," and added, "Honestly, some of the questions regarding the hands coming out, I think the one thing that maybe gets a little bit lost is KC is a much bigger player than Zay, but I think there is some overlap in the characteristics."
Sept. 13 workload
The Browns open their season on Sept. 13 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, so the punt return plan sits inside a larger workload decision for a rookie who is expected to matter on offense. Special-teams work can help a young player touch the ball sooner, but it also adds collisions to a schedule that already includes receiver snaps and the physical load that comes with them.
That is the real tradeoff here: extra usage without extra rest. If the Browns keep Concepcion in the punt return job, they are betting that the added value outweighs the injury risk, and they are likely to spend the preseason sorting out how much of that load he can handle before Week 1.
