Castleford Tigers claimed an 18-14 win over Hull FC at the MKM Stadium, with Liam Hood scoring the decisive try in the 68th minute to seal only their third Super League away win of the season.
The result came despite the Tigers dealing with coaching problems before kick-off, with Ryan Carr absent for personal reasons. Luke Robinson was due to take training on Monday as the new assistant boss, but Castleford still produced a performance that kept them in control for long periods and ultimately gave them a useful boost in the table.
Castleford struck first
Renouf Atoni opened the scoring after nine minutes, before Mikaele Ravalawa added a second Castleford try on 26 minutes to put the visitors 12-0 ahead. Hull FC responded four minutes before half-time through Joe Batchelor, but Castleford still carried a narrow lead into the break.
Hull then pushed back after the restart. Harvey Barron crossed in the 47th minute and Lewis Martin followed after 59 minutes to turn the game in Hull's favour. But Castleford found the answer when Hood finished the match-winning score on 68 minutes.
What it means
Chris Chester, Castleford's director of rugby, told Radio Leeds that he thought his side were the best team on the day. He added that they showed toughness, resilience and fight, which he said had been missing in recent weeks.
The win moved Castleford up to ninth in the table, four points clear of Hull FC in 12th. For Castleford, it was a valuable away result and a reminder that even with disruption around the club, they can still produce a gritty performance when it matters.
