The Cincinnati Bengals announced Saturday that Ceyair Wright has left the team to pursue other opportunities, a move that changes their defensive back depth without using a spot on the 90-man roster.
Wright joined the Bengals this offseason as an undrafted free agent out of Nebraska following the 2026 NFL Draft. At 5-foot-9 and 180 pounds, he arrived as a cornerback with some ball production on his college résumé, including four interceptions and 26 pass deflections across three college seasons.
What the move means for Cincinnati
The departure matters because Wright was facing an uphill climb to make the 53-man roster. By leaving before the preseason competition fully plays out, the Bengals can continue sorting out the secondary with one less player in the mix and no adjustment to their 90-man roster count.
For a team that is still shaping its preseason personnel, that can matter. Every spot counts at this stage of the offseason, especially for players trying to win jobs on the back end of the roster. Wright’s exit opens the door for Cincinnati to keep evaluating other defensive backs as it moves deeper into the 2025 campaign buildup.
The Bengals also added Matthew McDoom on Saturday, following a brief gap in his own path to the roster. He was originally signed by the Baltimore Ravens in May as a college free agent before being waived on August 8. Cincinnati’s addition of McDoom gives the team another player to work with as it continues managing roster depth through the rest of the summer.
