SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launch operations hit a new cadence record on Saturday night, with two Falcon 9 missions lifting off 38.5 minutes apart. The first carried eight satellites for Globalstar from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station, and the second carried a classified payload for the U.S. Space Force.

That gap is the story. It means one launch flow had to clear the pad, recover a booster, and free the range fast enough for another Falcon 9 mission to follow before the night was over.

Globalstar’s eight-satellite flight

The first mission lifted off at 9:12 p.m. EDT and put eight satellites into orbit to replenish Globalstar’s low Earth orbit constellation, with booster B1090 flying for the 14th time before landing at Landing Zone 40 about eight minutes after liftoff.

Globalstar moved the Globalstar 2-R Launch 1 Mission from Sunday, May 17 so its teams would have more time to prepare the satellites, and Dr. Paul E. Jacobs said in a May 12 press release, "This launch represents another important step in sustaining and strengthening the infrastructure our customers rely on every day," and, "As we continue executing our long-term strategy, replenishing our existing constellation remains a critical part of delivering resilient satellite services around the world."

USSF-366 and B1088

The second Falcon 9 launch carried a classified payload for the U.S. Space Force under USSF-366, and a Space Force spokesperson said the mission was assigned under a previously awarded National Security Space Launch Phase 3 Lane 1 task order. It lifted off at 6:50 p.m. PDT and sent booster B1088 to a landing on Of Course I Still Love You in the Pacific Ocean, marking the 650th landing of a Falcon booster.

SpaceX’s record-setting turnaround came with a split in visibility: Globalstar’s spacecraft were public, while the USSF-366 payload was not disclosed before liftoff. That leaves the military side of the night operationally real but technically opaque, and the payload itself remains the unanswered part of the story.

For customers watching Globalstar, the immediate takeaway is that the constellation refill is underway after a schedule shift to give teams more preparation time, while SpaceX showed it can cycle two Falcon 9 flights in less than 40 minutes without breaking the recovery chain.

Florida’s Space Coast cadence

The first launch was the 52nd orbital launch from Florida’s Space Coast this year, which shows how much launch traffic the region is absorbing even before the night’s second liftoff entered the count.
