Burnley have signed Manchester City defender Max Alleyne on a season-long loan, adding another young option to their squad as they prepare for the new Championship campaign.
The move gives Burnley a 21-year-old England Under-21 defender who already has senior experience behind him. Alleyne spent the first half of last season on loan at Watford in the Championship before being recalled by Manchester City in January.
What Alleyne brings to Burnley
Last season, Alleyne made seven appearances for Manchester City across four competitions. One of those came in the FA Cup, where he scored in City’s 10-1 win against Exeter. That combination of senior minutes, academy development and exposure to different competitions gives Burnley a loanee with a more rounded background than many players his age.
For Burnley, the deal is another step in summer recruitment and their build-up to the new Championship season. It is also the fourth summer signing for the club, giving them more depth as they continue shaping the squad.
Alleyne said he first heard about Burnley’s interest a couple of months ago and was glad the move was completed. He also described Burnley as a huge club and said he was buzzing to get there, underlining the appeal of the opportunity for a player still early in his career.
The loan also makes sense from a development point of view. Alleyne has already had a taste of senior football at Watford, and Burnley now get a defender who has spent time in a Premier League environment and has already been involved in meaningful matches for Manchester City. For both player and club, the season-long move offers a clear next step.
