According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle have agreed a deal with Benfica to sign Amar Dedić for a €35m package, with a sell-on clause included. Romano added that the Portuguese club wanted Dedić to stay, but the player made the Newcastle move his top priority. Florian Plettenberg also reported that the medical at Newcastle United is scheduled for next week.
That would make Dedić the sixth summer signing for Newcastle United, after Bazoumana Touré, Aladji Bamba, Lukáš Horníček, Sean Steur and Ewen Jaouen. The pattern is hard to miss. Newcastle are not shopping for quick fixes as much as they are trying to build a squad with more legs, more ceiling and more room to develop.
A squad plan shaped by change
The broader context matters here. Newcastle United are entering a new era under Matthias Jaissle, and the transfer activity reflects that shift.
