Nickit Community Day takes over Pokémon GO on Sunday, Aug. 16, from 2 to 5 p.m. local time, giving Trainers in GO a three-hour window to catch Nickit more often. Evolving Nickit during the event, or within four hours afterward, gives Thievul the Charged Attack Icy Wind.
The event also brings Shiny Nickit and Shiny Thievul, 3× Catch Stardust, 2× Catch Candy, a 2× chance to receive Candy XL, 3-hour Incense, 1-hour Lure Modules, one additional Special Trade, and 50% less Stardust required for trades. For players chasing a battle-ready evolution, the timing is the point: Icy Wind has 60 power and lowers the opposing Pokémon’s Attack by one stage in Trainer Battles.
Nickit Community Day bonuses
Nickit appears much more frequently in the wild during Community Day, and Trainers can take snapshots of their Pokémon and potentially be photobombed by Nickit. Community Day-themed Field Research is also available during the event.
Field Research can reward more Stardust, Ultra Balls, additional Nickit encounters, and Nickit with special backgrounds. Two Field Research tasks add another layer to the grind, with opportunities tied to catching Pokémon while in a Party and catching 50 Pokémon.
Icy Wind for Thievul
The evolution window is the main decision point. Players who want Icy Wind for Thievul need to evolve Nickit during the three-hour event or within four hours after it ends, while the Lure Modules and trade-related bonuses stretch beyond that core window.
That split leaves the event with two clocks running at once: the short burst that controls spawns, shiny hunting and the move, and the longer tail that keeps some bonuses alive after 5 p.m. Trainers who want the move should plan their evolution before the four-hour window closes, while anyone after Candy, Candy XL or trade savings still has more time to work those bonuses.
Field Research in GO
Special backgrounds can come from catching Nickit and from some Field Research tasks, adding another reason to save catches during the event. For players who only care about one outcome, the practical order is simple: catch during the event, evolve Nickit before the window expires, and use the remaining time for trades and research tasks.
