Trepy, 20, played 53 minutes in Cagliari's 1-0 win on Friday, August 14, before he was substituted. Cagliari signed him in 2022, and he made his debut last season.

Cagliari statement on Trepy

Cagliari said: "Yael Trepy is currently hospitalised at the Santissima Annunziata Civil Hospital in Sassari, where he is in intensive care. The Club is in constant contact with the healthcare facility and the player’s family and is closely monitoring the progress of his condition." It also said: "At this time, Cagliari Calcio’s thoughts are with Yael and his family. The Club also requests the utmost respect for their privacy and will provide any updates when available."

La Repubblica on the pool

La Repubblica said Trepy was in the deep end of the pool and is not a strong swimmer. L’Unione Sarda added that he lost consciousness before being taken to hospital. Cagliari did not explain how the incident happened, but its statement put the focus on his treatment and on the family’s privacy.

Trepy and Cagliari's week

The incident came after Cagliari's win over Arezzo and before Cagliari's league campaign was scheduled to begin at Parma on Saturday. The team were due to have back-to-back home fixtures against Inter in the league and Hellas Verona in the Coppa Italia, leaving Trepy's condition as the immediate issue for the club and its supporters.
