Whitney Peak has joined Miami Vice ’85, adding another cast member to Universal’s new take on the series. The project is headed for Imax and is set for release on May 19, 2028.
Michael B. Jordan chemistry tests
Peak was one of many female actors testing for the part, and final chemistry tests with Michael B. Jordan took place last month. That is the cleanest sign yet that the film is moving beyond broad casting toward locked pairings, even before cameras roll.
Alden Ehrenreich was recently added to the cast as well, giving Joseph Kosinski another recognizable name to slot into a film built around the glamour and corruption of mid-’80s Miami. Dan Gilroy wrote the script, while the movie is inspired by the pilot episode of the Universal Television series Miami Vice.
Miami Vice ’85 timeline
Production on Miami Vice ’85 will begin this year, but the timeline in circulation also points to a start top of 2026. Those two markers do not read as the same schedule, so the practical takeaway is that the film is still in the pre-start phase and casting can keep tightening before the first day of production arrives.
Peak will next be seen as Lenore Dove in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is set for a November 20 worldwide release, and she will also appear in 4 Kids Walk Into A Bank, directed by Frankie Shaw. She already drew attention in April when Thrash reached number 1 worldwide within 24 hours of release on Netflix, so this move into Miami Vice ’85 keeps her on a fast-moving studio path.
Universal’s Imax plan
The film’s Imax release and 2028 date put a long runway in front of the project, which gives Universal time to build the cast around Peak, Jordan, and Ehrenreich without rushing the package. The only casting question still hanging over the deal is the role itself: Peak will play Jordan’s love interest, but the character name has not been laid out here.
