Halo Studios said the Halo campaign evolved August update will bring the first major Halo: Campaign Evolved patch next week, adding toggles for film grain and chromatic aberration plus gameplay fixes. The update goes to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The patch also stops Sgt. Johnson from blocking mission progress, makes Jackals stagger more reliably, and helps Marines and Flood Marines fire their assault rifles correctly when the Magnified Skull is enabled. Halo Studios said it will publish the full patch notes when the update goes live.
Halo Studios on PC and PS5
Halo Studios described the patch through the Halo Support account on X, using the line “additional stability improvements across multiple platforms.” Those changes sit alongside the visual toggles, which let players switch off film grain and chromatic aberration in the remake.
Halo: Campaign Evolved launched on 28 July 2026 for PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. It is a remake of Halo CE, with the full campaign and three new prequel missions, but no multiplayer. That earlier release gives the patch a clear task: clean up campaign play without changing what is already unlocked.
Sgt. Johnson in Campaign Evolved
Sgt. Johnson is the clearest example of the fix list. In the three new prequel missions, he had to hack open doors before Master Chief could proceed, and the patch removes a progression block tied to that behavior. For players already partway through a run, the practical effect is that campaign flow should stop stalling at that point.
The update also reaches combat behavior, not just presentation. Jackals should stagger more reliably, and Marines and Flood Marines should fire their assault rifles correctly with the Magnified Skull enabled.
Halo Support patch notes
There is one immediate catch for anyone planning to download it: Halo Studios said doing so wipes any mid-mission saved progress. Unlocked missions and rally points carry over after the update, so players do not lose their broader campaign access.
That makes the patch a reset for unfinished missions, not for the whole save. Players who are close to the middle of a mission will want to finish first, while anyone waiting for the full change list will have to hold until Halo Studios posts the patch notes next week.
