London weather today points to a warm, dry Monday evening before rain returns in the early hours of Tuesday. The Met Office says temperatures may reach 26C to 27C, with only isolated light showers possible in the afternoon.
London and the South East
The Met Office expects a fine evening across London and the South East, and says the chance of rain in the early evening is relatively low. Widespread rainfall between 7pm and 8pm is unlikely, so the main change is set to come later, not before nightfall.
Cloud cover is expected to build from the north overnight, with rain moving into the region during the early hours of Tuesday. Overnight temperatures are set to drop to around 17C to 18C, a sharp shift from the warmth of Monday afternoon.
Tuesday morning in London
Tuesday is expected to start cloudy and wet as the rain moves southwards across the region through the morning. Some areas may experience heavy rainfall, which gives early commuters the main practical change to watch for after the dry spell on Monday.
Conditions are then predicted to improve gradually during the afternoon as the rain clears and brighter spells develop. That means the wet start is likely to ease later in the day, but the change will come only after the morning stretch of rain has moved through.
Wednesday in the South East
The weather is expected to become more unsettled from Wednesday onwards, with showers predicted and some of them possibly heavy. The Met Office also says there is a risk of thunder, so the drier spell around Monday does not last far into the week.
For Londoners and people across the South East, the useful window is Monday evening, when outdoor plans still have the best chance of staying dry. After that, the forecast turns wetter overnight and into Tuesday morning before brighter spells return.
