Donnie Yen’s work on Phantom Blade Zero PS5 now sits alongside a live pre-order push, giving players a concrete date to circle before the August 17 State of Play. The game is available now on PlayStation 5, and the timed showcase is set to add nearly 20 minutes of gameplay.

PlayStation Blog says, “We’re excited to share that Phantom Blade Zero is now available for pre-order.” It also says, “Tune in August 17 for nearly 20 minutes of thrilling new gameplay.” For players deciding whether to buy now, that combination means a purchase option is open before the deeper systems reveal lands on the broadcast.

Donnie Yen and Mó Yuan

Donnie Yen has served as creative consultant since 2023 and also performs facial and motion capture for Mó Yuan, Soul’s father. That gives the project a martial arts and action filmmaking perspective that is built into combat design rather than added after the fact. For a game built around expressive fighting, that sort of input is part of the sell.

The pre-order trailer showed Soul battling enemies atop a speeding wagon and crossing blades with former comrades like The Hunt. PlayStation Blog says, “What you saw in the pre-order trailer is only the beginning.” The August 17 broadcast is set up to do the heavier lift: introducing never-before-seen characters central to the story and showing how players can be expressive with their individual builds.

August 17 on PlayStation Twitch

The Phantom Blade Zero gameplay deep dive State of Play streams at 7:00pm PT and 10:00pm ET on August 17, then rolls to 3:00am BST, 10:00am Beijing Time, and 11:00am JST on August 18. PlayStation Blog closes with, “We’re excited to share much more during our special standalone State of Play on August 17 and hope you’ll join us on the PlayStation Twitch and YouTube channels!”

Pre-ordering on PlayStation 5 also unlocks the Treasure Basin accessory and the Legacy outfit early, though both can still be earned through in-game progression. That makes the decision simple: buy now for the early unlocks, or wait for the nearly 20-minute gameplay deep dive if you want the clearest read on the combat systems before October 29, 2026.
