Bo Nix sparks Broncos practice altercation on Day 13 — Denver Broncos Practice Altercation

A Denver Broncos training camp practice turned chippy on Tuesday when a fight broke out after Bo Nix was taken to the ground. The incident came on Day 13 of camp and centered on the Broncos' starting quarterback, who is still being managed carefully as he returns from a broken ankle.

Vance Joseph said defenders are not supposed to touch quarterbacks in practice, making the moment a clear reminder of how closely Denver is monitoring contact around Nix. Joseph's message was straightforward: Bo is the quarterback, and the staff does not want anyone near him.

Nix, though, did not seem bothered by the physical edge to the session. After the altercation, he said, "I love it," and later called it part of football and part of the buildup to the games ahead. He described the practice as physical and said the intensity was welcome during the long stretch of summer camp work.

That reaction fits the tone of a Broncos camp that has been pushing through a lot of roster evaluation and physical reps. Nix's situation is especially important because the team wants him to stay healthy while still getting enough work to be ready for the season. A practice dust-up is not ideal, but it also shows how competitive camp has become.

Another busy practice for Denver

The Broncos' Tuesday session featured more than one notable moment. Justin Joly was at the center of a dust-up after catching a pass and getting de-cleated by Taurean York. Joly later dropped a deep pass from Sam Ehlinger, adding another difficult rep to a physical practice.

Sean Payton said the team got valuable snaps and good exposure from the work, including on defense and special teams. He also noted that the Broncos accomplished a lot of what they wanted during the practice, which matters as the team continues sorting out roles across the roster.

One of the biggest long-term questions remains inside linebacker, where Levelle Bailey's broken leg from last week's preseason opener created an opening. Payton said Monday that it is too soon to know whether Bailey will be able to return later this season, leaving Denver with more uncertainty in the middle of its defense.

There were also encouraging signs on offense last week, including Courtland Sutton's three-catch, 60-yard performance that featured a 40-yard grab and set up the Broncos' first touchdown. For a camp that is already dealing with injuries, roster competition and physical practice sessions, every clean rep matters.

For now, the biggest takeaway from Tuesday is simple: the Broncos are ramping up the intensity, Nix is embracing it, and Denver will continue to protect its quarterback even when camp gets heated.
