Westmeath Rose of Tralee Caoilfhinn Ní Choiligh was crowned the 2026 Rose of Tralee on Tuesday night at the conclusion of the festival in Co Kerry. The result gave her the title after a run of interviews and performances by the 32 Roses.

On Tuesday night, Ní Choiligh said: “I’m actually speechless. I don’t think this is even real. I honestly would not have been able to do any of this without any of these girls they have been so amazing.” The winner receives a prize fund that includes the use of a new car for 12 months, free hotel stays and hair treatments in Tralee for the year and a €25,000 travel bursary, with the travel fund tied to representing the festival.

Monday night’s wig reveal

On Monday night, Ní Choiligh shared her alopecia journey and showed a selection of wigs before removing the wig she was wearing that night to show her hair loss. She said she had been wearing wigs for eight years after she began to lose her hair aged 15, and that detail sat at the center of the night’s broadcast rather than any polished pageant script.

Before the evening’s broadcast, she said: “This coincided with embracing my hair loss with my decision not to wear fake tan and loving my pale skin because they both work into the beauty standards that we have nowadays.” That gave the win a sharper edge than a standard crowning: the title followed a public decision to show the audience exactly what she had been managing privately for years.

Dáithí Ó Sé and Kathryn Thomas

The selection was presented by Dáithí Ó Sé and Kathryn Thomas, while the competition was judged by Nuala Carey, Don O’Neill, Aisling Murphy and Maggie Flaherty. The two-night TV extravaganza featured performances from the Frank and Walters on night one and Riverdance on night two, with interviews with the 32 Roses followed by a performance of a talent.

Katelyn Cummins, the 2025 Rose of Tralee winner, handed over the honour and told Ní Choiligh to “take in every moment of the experience... And don’t forget to be yourself.” Ní Choiligh then became the latest holder of a title that comes with travel obligations, not just pageantry.

What the prize fund requires

The prize package is not a trophy-only arrangement. The winner must use the travel fund to represent the festival, and the previous Rose attended more than 240 events, travelled to the United State and Canada on official festival business and took part in Dancing with the Stars.

That makes the job more operational than ceremonial. Ní Choiligh now inherits a year shaped by appearances, travel and festival duties, with the prize money and benefits attached to the post only if she carries the role the way the competition expects.
