Jeremy and Brandy Jenkins were killed Saturday night, Aug. 15, in a single-vehicle crash in Texas. Jeremy Jenkins was the East Bernard ISD athletic director and head football coach, and Brandy Jenkins taught at East Bernard Junior High School.

The crash came days after students returned for the 2026-27 school year on Wednesday, Aug. 12, and before the Brahmas football team’s Aug. 28 game against Sweeny. East Bernard ISD said counseling and support services would be available for students and staff.

The Texas Department of Public Safety said a 2025 Tesla Model Y was traveling northbound on State Highway 60 at about 10:07 p.m. when it approached a curve. The vehicle did not recognize the curve, left the roadway to the east and overturned. Jeremy Jenkins was 51, and Brandy Jenkins was 46 when they were pronounced dead at the scene.

Superintendent Courtney Hudgins addressed families on Sunday, Aug. 16. “Jeremy and Brandy were much more than their titles or the roles they held within our schools,” Hudgins said. “They were colleagues, educators, mentors, friends, and family.”

Hudgins also wrote, “East Bernard has always been a place where people show up for one another, and now is a time when that love and support are needed more than ever.” In the days ahead, Hudgins said, “we will need to lean on one another with love, patience, compassion, and grace.”

The school district now has to carry both grief and routine at the same time. Jeremy was set to enter his third year leading the Brahmas football team, which went 20-7 in his first two seasons, while the district also prepared for the new school year that had already begun.

A GoFundMe for Tyson

Jeremy and Brandy left behind three sons: Tyson, Gage and Jake. A GoFundMe for Tyson, Gage and Jake had raised over $130,000, giving the family immediate help as the district moves into the football season without its coach and the school year without one of its teachers.
