Oma's Pride Dog Food Recall Tied to 3 Illnesses, Salmonella

Oma's Pride issued a dog food recall for its Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe after FDA testing found salmonella in lot BB012729. The 6-pound frozen raw product has been tied to at least 3 illnesses, and customers in 11 states received the lot through retail, wholesale, and online orders.

BB012729 and 3 illnesses

The recalled product is a frozen raw dog food item sold under the Woof Complete Canine Chicken Recipe name. The lot number is BB012729. The FDA tested the food after a consumer complaint and found salmonella, then the recall followed.

The reported illnesses make this more than a label change. A contaminated raw pet food lot can affect households in more than one way because people may be exposed while handling the food, while pets may be exposed when it is served.

11 states received the lot

Distribution of the affected lot reached retail and wholesale customers in Kentucky, Arizona, California, Indiana, Louisiana, Maryland, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania and Virginia. Frozen direct-to-consumer online orders also received the product.

The FDA said people can become ill by handling contaminated pet food or by touching surfaces it contacted. It also said pets may show lethargy, vomiting, fever, diarrhea that may be bloody, decreased appetite and abdominal pain.

Oma's Pride refund steps

Consumers were advised to stop using the affected lot right away and dispose of it safely. They were also told to clean any bowls and other surfaces that may have come into contact with the recalled food.

Oma's Pride gave refund contact options at 1-800-678-OMAS and [email protected]. The company said its effort to identify how the contamination started is ongoing, leaving the source of the salmonella under review while the recalled lot has already reached customers across 11 states.
