State Farm Insurance is sending a record $5 billion dividend to qualifying auto policyholders, with payments rolling out over the coming months. The payout applies to customers with qualifying 2025 auto policies whose dividend amount reaches $10 or more, and it reaches more than 49 million vehicles.
State Farm and the $100 average
$100 per vehicle is the company’s stated average payment, though the actual amount depends on the premium paid for each qualifying policy in 2025 and the state where the vehicle was insured. The dividend for each vehicle falls between 4% and 10% of that premium, so the cash value is tied directly to how much a customer paid into the policy during the year.
2025 is the reference year used to calculate the payout, and State Farm says the distribution is the largest cash dividend in its more than 100-year history. Customers may receive more than one check if they had more than one qualifying vehicle, which means the payment is calculated at the vehicle level rather than as a single household total.
Qualifying policies and delivery
Qualifying customers are being notified now, and State Farm says email will be the first route for people with an address on file. Those messages include instructions to log into an online payment portal, where recipients can choose an electronic payment or a check. Customers without a current email address on file will get an automatic payment by mail.
State Farm says the dividend is going only to vehicle policyholders, and customers do not have to be currently insured by State Farm to receive it. That broadens the payout beyond active accounts and means former policyholders with qualifying 2025 coverage can still be in line for money.
State Farm rates stay unchanged
State Farm says the dividend will not change insurance premium rates, even though the payment is based on 2025 financial results. Current policy rates are set from expected future costs, while the dividend comes from the company’s results for the year already completed, so the cash distribution does not get treated as a premium credit and will not be posted to a policy account.
Because payments are being sent in batches sorted by location, the timing will differ by state and may take months to finish. Customers who want their state-specific delivery date can call 888-808-9532 or visit SFDividend.com; for anyone waiting on the check, the practical next step is to watch the notice from State Farm and follow the payment instructions exactly so the dividend goes to the right place.
