NBA 2K HQ has a September 4 date circled around NBA 2K27, and the sharpest change is a co-ed City that lets Female MyPlayers compete in The City alongside male MyPlayers. For players who live in the online hub, that turns a long-standing gate into a shared space across every City mode.
September 4 in The City
The update was laid out during a 45-minute livestream from the Inuit Dome in Los Angeles, CA, alongside the NBA 2K27 Preseason Breakdown: Game Reveal recap. The City will include The REC, The Theater, Street Kings, Park, Proving Grounds, Ante-Up, Starting Five, Crew HQ, and Casual Corner, and all of those modes will be completely co-ed at launch.
Female MyPlayers are built on the exact same framework as all MyPlayers, so height, badges, attribute ratings, and wingspan come from the build rather than appearance. That means the new access rule changes who can enter The City, but it does not change how a build is constructed once a player starts shaping one.
Female MyPlayers in The City
The catch is narrow and important: Female MyPlayers are a City-only experience. They can compete in The City, but they do not carry outside that hub, which makes the feature expansion real while keeping the usage boundary tight. For anyone planning a build, the practical question is less about whether female players can enter and more about how far that City-only lane reaches once the game is in hand.
The Rec, The Theater, Ante-Up, and Seasonal Parks will also arrive with brand-new environments, with The Rec randomly rotating between five unique environments at launch. That gives the co-ed shift a visible reset rather than a simple rule change, and it gives regular City players a different look the first time they log in.
Badge Tokens and The Exchange
NBA 2K27 also adds Badge Tokens for equipping Badges, and The Builder will show in real time how size and position affect Badge qualification and token cost. There are 53 Badges in the game, including 19 brand-new Badges, so the build system is doing more than polishing the edges; it is setting the terms for how players specialize from the start.
In MyTeam, players can exchange any Player Cards except Free Agent cards for elite rewards, and cards earned from Season level rewards can also be exchanged. Cards used for a Collection Reward become unauctionable rather than locked in, which still leaves them usable in The Exchange after they help unlock the reward. MyNBA Legacy adds a single-player, player-locked route in the Modern Era, where players can choose any player, earn experience, and upgrade Attributes and Badges without leaving the mode’s tighter structure.
September 4 is the point where the new rules stop being a reveal and start being the normal way NBA 2K27 works. The only real unknown left in practice is how far the City-only limitation will shape a Female MyPlayer once the game opens, but the direction is clear: the online hub is being rewritten around inclusion first, and build choices will matter more because the shared space is broader.
