Jane Weaver reported the clear eyes eye drops recall after the Food and Drug Administration said bottles of Clear Eyes Maximum Itchy Eye Relief were voluntarily pulled from shelves nationwide over potential contamination. The recall covers 39,060 0.5-fluid-ounce bottles sold over the counter at CVS and Walmart.
Lot 2552A and D-0766-2026
The recalled bottles were labeled Lot 2552A, carried recall number D-0766-2026, and had a Sept. 30, 2027 expiration date. Medtech Products distributed the product nationwide, and the FDA listed the action as Class II, a category the notice said can involve temporary or medically reversible health problems.
Prestige Consumer Healthcare in New York owns Medtech Products, and a Prestige spokesperson said no injuries had been reported to date. The company said, "Although the affected product was not confirmed to be contaminated, we initiated this voluntary recall out of an abundance of caution and our commitment to providing consumers with safe, high-quality products".
FDA Class II recall
The recall began July 29 and was ongoing when the report was published. For consumers who bought the product, the practical step is simple: check the bottle label for Lot 2552A and the Sept. 30, 2027 expiration date, because those details identify the affected stock.
The filing also said no other eye drops were included. That leaves one unresolved point at the center of the recall: the notice gave lack of assurance of sterility as the reason, but did not spell out what specific issue triggered that concern.
