Regan Slater now has his name on a walkway at St Stephen’s, where one route has been temporarily renamed Slater Street ahead of Hull City’s home opener against Manchester United on Saturday, August 22.
The timing matters because Hull City is returning to the Premier League after nine years away, and the signage was installed before the first game back at home. Jim Harris, the centre manager at St Stephen’s, said: “It’s been brilliant to see local fans get behind the competition, and Slater Street is a deserving winner.”
May votes at St Stephen’s
In May, after Hull City’s Championship play-off win, St Stephen’s invited supporters to nominate their favourite Hull City player for a temporary walkway rename. Fans backed Regan Slater, who will be part of the squad heading into the new Premier League season, and the centre turned that support into a public piece of signage rather than a private gesture.
Harris also said: “Regan is part of the team that has given the city so much to celebrate, so it’s great to recognise him as the Tigers prepare for their return to the Premier League.” That framing is bluntly practical: the tribute is not a nostalgia act, but a way of tying a retail space to the club’s current season and its local following.
Slater Street in Hull
The walkway was only temporarily renamed, so the tribute works as a marker for the opening stretch of the season rather than a permanent change to the site. That makes it a short-lived signal to supporters passing through Hull that the club’s return has already spilled beyond the ground and into the city centre.
Harris added: “The first game back, at home against Manchester United, will be a brilliant occasion for the city and we’ll be cheering the Tigers on alongside supporters across Hull.” For now, the clearest practical takeaway is simple: Slater Street is in place ahead of the August 22 fixture, and the tribute will be most visible to anyone moving through St Stephen’s before kickoff.
