Harold Varner III and members of OKGC were asked to leave Bear Slide Golf Club in Indiana on August 18 after trying to play as a six-some, according to the club.

The incident came during LIV Golf's season finale week in Indiana and involved a simple but important course rule: the group size was too large. Before August 18, Varner had a foursome booked at Bear Slide Golf Club, but when he arrived about 30 minutes late, he had six golfers in total with him.

Bear Slide said it arranged two separate three-balls and told the group on three separate occasions that six players were not permitted to play together. The two groups then teed off separately for the opening three holes before joining together on the 4th hole.

From there, the situation escalated quickly. The group was asked to leave after completing the 4th green, with the club making clear that larger groups were not allowed. A common reason for intervention at golf courses is when players exceed the permitted group size, since four-balls are the standard maximum at many courses and bigger groups can slow play.

Why the move mattered

The timing made the incident notable. LIV Golf Indianapolis became the final event of the season after the team championship in Michigan was cancelled, putting more attention on the players and their schedule in Indiana. That backdrop gave the Bear Slide dispute a little extra visibility, even if the issue itself was straightforward.

In the end, the club's message was simple: the group had been told the rules, the rules were not followed, and the course wanted the players off the property. For Varner and the OKGC group, it turned into an unwanted stop during a busy week on the LIV calendar.
