The RSPCA has launched a dog appeal after a male black lurcher was found dead on a verge along Moor Lane, Kinnerton, on Wednesday August 18 at 9.30am. Bethany Newis, an animal rescue officer, is asking anyone with first hand information to come forward.
The dog walker who found the body made the discovery in a village on the North Wales border. Newis said: "This was a very upsetting discovery for someone to make and we are concerned about how the dog's body came to be at this spot."

Newis said the dog had been microchipped and traced to an owner in North Wales, who said they re-homed the dog as a pup. She added that the next owner, also living in North Wales, said they rehomed the dog because it did not get on with another pet in the home.
That trail stopped there. The RSPCA is trying to trace the person who took on the dog after that second rehoming, a gap that leaves the final transfer point open.

Newis said the lurcher would have been three in October and that the body was too decomposed to establish an exact cause of death. She said the dog's body appears to have been dumped, which has raised suspicions, but the condition of the remains prevented a firm conclusion about how it died.
The dog was wearing a black collar with metal bone shaped studs, and the blank nametag had some blue rope present. Newis said the rope may have been used as a lead or a tether, and said the collar could help jog memories about who recently owned him.
She said the area is a popular dog walking spot, and urged anyone with first hand information to contact the RSPCA's Inspectorate appeal line on 0300 123 8018 and quote reference number 01884608.
