Greater Manchester Police arrested two women after a three-year-old boy was seriously injured in a fall from a window in Rochdale. The boy was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition while officers continue inquiries into what happened.
Spotland Tops on Saturday
Officers were called to Spotland Tops at 16:16 BST on Saturday after reports of concern for the welfare of a child. Emergency services attended the scene, and the boy was then taken to hospital for treatment.
The arrests followed on Sunday at a property in Blackburn. The women are aged 19 and 20, and police said they were detained on suspicion of causing a serious injury to a child.
Blackburn arrests on Sunday
The case now turns on the full sequence of events between the call in Rochdale and the arrests in Blackburn. Police have not set out how the child came to fall from the window, which leaves the injury mechanism as the central fact still being examined.
For people following the case, the immediate question is not the arrest count but the child’s condition and the police inquiry around it. The boy remains in hospital in critical condition while Greater Manchester Police continues to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
