For travelers using Qantas points, the draw is immediate: points can be spent with Philippine Airlines now, even though they cannot yet be earned on the airline.
The most direct redemption on offer was business class to Manila for 90,000 Qantas points plus $327. A longer trip from Melbourne to Toronto via Manila cost 182,900 Qantas points plus $392.25, showing how the same award option stretches from a single long-haul leg to a multi-city itinerary.
Philippine Airlines and Qantas in May
Philippine Airlines launched a frequent flyer agreement with Qantas in May, giving Qantas points holders a new way to use points on the carrier before any earning side of the relationship opens up. Philippine Airlines will join the Oneworld alliance in 2027, so the current setup sits in a transition period rather than a fully integrated frequent flyer arrangement.
That makes the near-500-seat availability more practical than theoretical. It gives travelers departing Australia a larger pool of business-class award seats than many points users are used to seeing, especially on routes that connect through Manila.
Melbourne to Manila

Baggage on Philippine Airlines
The booking side is only part of the calculation for travelers leaving Australia. Standard business-class passengers get 40 kilograms of checked baggage, with 32 kilograms allowed per checked bag. Mabuhay Miles Elite passengers can bring 50 kilograms, Premier Elite passengers 70 kilograms, and Million Milers 80 kilograms.
Passengers connecting to North America from Australia get two 32-kilogram checked bags, while Premier Elite passengers get three bags and Million Milers get four bags. Business-class travelers also get one seven-kilogram carry-on bag plus one personal item and one small musical instrument.
