Arteta closes the door
Last week, Fabrizio Romano said Man Utd were very interested in signing Lewis-Skelly. He also made clear that the player wanted to stay at Arsenal and that there was no movement happening.
Romano said Lewis-Skelly was “in love with Arsenal” and stressed that “the boy absolutely wants to stay at Arsenal and is happy at Arsenal.” He also added that if Arsenal decided from now until the end of the window to open the door and make a profit, United could be one of the clubs interested.
But that is where the story has changed. Mikel Arteta has intervened and stopped the talks after learning about the discussions, which leaves Arsenal with a clear position on one of their young players. The message is simple: unless the situation changes dramatically, Lewis-Skelly is not for sale.
United still need a left-back
For Man Utd, the practical issue remains the same. They need a left-back before September 1, and their preferred target is still Lewis Hall. If that deal does not move, the club would need another solution quickly.
Football Transfers have already suggested it would require a quite extraordinary turn of events for Lewis-Skelly to join Man Utd this summer, and that feels like the right way to frame it now.
