Two Colorado State Troopers were shot during a traffic stop at hwy 24 and Piney Point near Woodland Park on August 25, 2026. Teller County Sheriff's Office ordered a shelter-in-place for the Westwood Lakes Subdivision as law enforcement searched for the suspect.
The Colorado State Patrol said the stop began around 7:15 a.m. west of Woodland Park. One trooper suffered serious injuries and the other minor injuries, and Teller County Sheriff's Office said both self-transported to the hospital and were being treated.

Colorado State Patrol said two CSP troopers were shot in the area of Highway 24 and Piney Point Lane. The same agency said the suspect was a white male with facial hair and brown or blonde shoulder length hair, driving a blue Subaru Imprezza with no front plate or obscured license plates.
Law enforcement said the suspect was expected to be in the area of Westwood Lakes and Woodland West, possibly on foot. Residents in the Westwood Lakes Subdivision were told to shelter in place while the search continued.

Colorado Bureau of Investigation issued a blue alert around 8:45 a.m., and it appeared on most phones as a Public Safety Alert. ATF Denver said it was responding to the incident to assist.
The description of the suspect changed across the morning notices, with one account listing brownish-tinted hair and another describing brown or blonde shoulder length hair. That left responders working from overlapping descriptions of the same person while they kept the search focused on Westwood Lakes, Woodland West, and the roads around Highway 24.

For residents near Westwood Lakes and Woodland West, the immediate step was to stay inside until the shelter-in-place order changed. The search remained active after the blue alert, and the open question was whether the suspect was still moving through the area or had gotten beyond the reported search zone.
