Asus has opened standalone pre-orders for the ROG Xbox Ally X20 at $1,300, and the handheld is set to ship on October 15th. Buyers can order it now from Best Buy and Asus's online store.

The ROG Xbox Ally X20 uses a 7.4-inch 1080p OLED screen, and Don Nguyen said it’s the same basic ROG 20th Anniversary handheld I tried at its US offices. That makes the new listing easier to buy, but it also keeps it at the premium end of the lineup.

Best Buy and Asus listings

Asus is selling the Xbox Ally X20 without the AR glasses bundle that was tied to the device earlier in the year. In July, Asus no longer required the bundled AR glasses purchase, which turned the handheld from a package deal into a standalone option for buyers who only want the PC in one box.

The store pages matter because they show the actual purchase path. The handheld is now listed beside the separate $1,000 Xbox Ally X and the $600 Xbox Ally, so the higher price is not a hidden bundle charge.

ROG XREAL bundle option

Asus is still offering a $2,500 bundle that includes the Xbox Ally X20, a pair of 240Hz ROG XREAL X1 glasses, a Dbrand Killswitch protective case, and a branded Pelican case. The glasses normally cost $849, so the bundle is aimed at buyers who want the accessories in one order rather than piecing them together later.

That leaves the standalone model in an awkward spot. It is easier to buy than the original bundled version, but it still costs $300 more than the original Xbox Ally X.

Xbox Ally X20 at launch

For buyers, the immediate decision is simple: pay $1,300 for the handheld alone, or hold off and stick with the cheaper Xbox Ally X and Xbox Ally. The October 15th shipping date is the only next step that is set, and the open question is what specific improvements justify the $300 premium over the original Xbox Ally X.
