DJ Humphries was not on the field for Tuesday’s roster shakeup, but the Seahawks made three moves that changed the picture around Bud Clark and Mason Richman. Seattle placed both players on injured reserve after injuries in the preseason loss to the Titans, then filled the open spots with Derrick Graham, Tysheem Johnson and Justin Jones.
Bud Clark, Mason Richman
Clark broke his ankle on Seattle’s first defensive snap, and Mike Macdonald said he would be out multiple months. Richman limped off in the first quarter and the injury was described as serious. Macdonald called them “two really tough injuries today,” and added, “Bud has a broken ankle to my knowledge, the severity I'm not sure, but he's going to be out multiple months.”
Three open spots, three signings
The Seahawks had one opening after Anthony Hankerson was waived on Monday, then created two more when Clark and Richman moved to injured reserve on Tuesday. That left three roster spots to fill, and Seattle used all three on Graham, Johnson and Jones. The sequence matters because the team had to replace lost depth immediately rather than wait for the next roster cycle.
Justin Jones, 3 yards
Jones brings the sharpest complication in the group. He is an undrafted rookie who had one rush attempt for 3 yards in Seattle’s preseason opener, so one of the three additions is a developmental bet rather than a ready-made fix. Derrick Graham Sr. gives the signing some NFL context — nine seasons in the league and 25 starts at guard for the Seahawks from 1996 to 1997 — but the real issue is whether the new bodies can stabilize the 90-man roster after two days of injury fallout.
Macdonald said, “Then we're going to try to figure out what's going on with Mason, but we also think that's a major injury, a long-term injury.” That is the part to watch next: Clark is already headed into a multi-month absence, and Richman’s recovery path will shape whether Seattle keeps shuffling the line or looks for another depth answer before the preseason window closes.
