A 61-year-old Las Vegas man died after a two-vehicle crash near Vermont Avenue and Harvard Street just before 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, and Metro said the collision began during a left U-turn in the central Las Vegas Valley. The crash involved a 2000 GMC Yukon and a 2000 Chevrolet Suburban, putting one driver on the ground scene and sending the other to University Medical Center.
Metro said the man was completing a left U-turn when, for unknown reasons, continued turning left 360 degrees and collided with the Suburban. That sequence ended with the Suburban pushed into a light pole and the Yukon driver later pronounced dead after transport to University Medical Center.
Vermont Avenue and Harvard Street
The crash happened just before 10:30 a.m. near Vermont Avenue and Harvard Street, near North Decatur Boulevard and West Washington Avenue. For drivers in that part of the central Las Vegas Valley, the immediate issue is the same after a fatal turn collision: one lane movement can quickly become a blocking crash scene when a vehicle is driven through the turn path and into another car.
The Suburban was driven by a 45-year-old Las Vegas woman, who remained at the scene. Metro said she showed no signs of impairment and suffered minor injuries. A 3-year-old passenger in the Suburban was not injured.
University Medical Center
The Yukon driver was taken to University Medical Center after the collision. He later died there. Metro identified him as the driver of the 2000 GMC Yukon and said he was 61.
