Case Rasmus added another line to a growing Little League World Series run on Tuesday, Aug. 25, setting the record for most hits in a single tournament by a female player with five hits.
The milestone came after another notable performance earlier in the week. On Monday, Aug. 24, she threw 54 pitches in 4 2/3 innings in Alabama's win over Pennsylvania, a workload that also affects when she can next pitch under Little League guidelines for pitchers under age 14.
A fast-moving Williamsport run
Rasmus also tied Mo'ne Davis' female pitching strikeout record with 14 strikeouts on Tuesday, Aug. 25, showing how much impact she has had on both sides of the game in Williamsport.
Alabama is scheduled to play Ohio in the LLWS quarterfinals on Wednesday, Aug. 26, at 7 p.m. ET. The winner of Alabama and Ohio is scheduled to advance to the semifinals on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 9 a.m. ET. If Phenix City keeps moving forward, Rasmus can pitch again on Saturday.
A family baseball line
The Rasmus name already has a place in baseball history. In 1999, Colby Rasmus and Cory Rasmus led their team to the Little League World Series championship alongside Tony. Cory Rasmus later pitched for the Atlanta Braves and Los Angeles Angels from 2013 to 2016.
Kinley Rasmus's Williamsport trip has also delayed her varsity debut at Central-Phenix City High School, where she also plays flag football and softball. For now, though, her focus is on helping Alabama continue its run in Pennsylvania and adding to a tournament that has already produced a pair of female records.
