Tyler Perry launched Maxscene under Tyler Perry Studios, creating a new specialty label for independent filmmakers whose work has struggled to find theatrical distribution. The division is set up as a distribution and support home base, with Antoinetta Stallings overseeing it from her role as Head of Development and Acquisitions.

“Everything I’ve built in my career carries my mother with it, and Maxscene is named in her honor,” Perry said, and he added that Maxine “believed in me before anyone else did.” That personal framing is more than sentiment: it ties the label to a business function, since Maxscene is meant to help films reach an audience through theatrical release support rather than leave creators to navigate distribution alone.

Antoinetta Stallings at Tyler Perry Studios

Stallings said, “I’ve spent my career working alongside filmmakers and watching incredibly talented storytellers struggle to find distribution for films that deserved to be seen.” She called the launch “an exciting and necessary moment,” and said Maxscene gives creators “the resources, support, and a path to distribution” so their films can reach audiences who might not otherwise discover them. That makes the label less like a vanity imprint and more like a practical route to market for smaller films.

Tyler Perry Studios already operates from a 330-acre lot in Atlanta and has produced thousands of hours of content, so Maxscene lands inside an existing production machine rather than a startup experiment. The move extends that scale toward a problem independent filmmakers know too well: making a film is one thing, getting it onto screens is another. Perry is trying to use the studio’s reach to narrow that gap without turning the label into a generic catchall.

Maxine and Maxscene

Maxscene’s first release slate has not been laid out, which leaves the real test in the next titles Perry and Stallings choose to back. For now, the practical change is straightforward: independent filmmakers with distinctive voices have a new label inside Tyler Perry Studios that is designed to push projects toward theatrical distribution, and the business will be judged by whether it moves those films from finished work to visible work.
