Florida missing kids were the focus of Operation Statewide Shield, as Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier said officials recovered 163 children during the five-day operation. The children were taken to specialized hubs for social services, medical care and child welfare support.
Uthmeier called it "the largest operation of its kind in Florida history" and said "more arrests will occur." Authorities also arrested three people in connection with the case, including Michael Prescott, who was arrested by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 21.
Operation Statewide Shield
The recovery effort ran across Pensacola, Tallahassee, Jacksonville, Orlando, Tampa, Fort Myers and Miami under the Florida Department of Law Enforcement and Special Counsel for Human Trafficking Rita Peters. Officials said the recovered children were ages 2 months to 17 years old, showing the range investigators were dealing with inside a single five-day investigation.
The largest counts came from Tampa Bay, where officials said 46 children were recovered, and Miami, with 41. Jacksonville accounted for 32, Orlando for 21, Fort Myers for 12, Pensacola for 8 and Tallahassee for 3.
Michael Prescott Arrest
Prescott was charged with three counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor, one count of felony battery and one count of aggravated assault. Robert Ferral Allison was arrested by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office on Aug. 20, and Jayden Allen Harwood was arrested on charges of interference in a child custody case and resisting officers without violence.
Uthmeier said prosecutors will pursue maximum sentences, including the death penalty where applicable for child sex abusers. Officials said the recovered children were connected to six U.S. states, Puerto Rico and 12 foreign countries, including Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Dominica, Finland, Ghana, Guatemala, Italy, Jamaica, Mexico, Spain and Taiwan.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement
Officials said the investigation remains open, and they have not identified all individuals leading the illegal operations. The unresolved part is simple: how many additional arrests or charges will follow after the 163 recoveries, and which people investigators will add next.
