How long is Big Brother tonight? The answer matters because Dee Valladares and the rest of the season 28 cast are on the night the show reaches its 1,000th episode on Thursday, a first for a primetime entertainment show in the United States. The milestone lands while Big Brother is posting stronger summer ratings than it did a year ago.
Through Aug. 9, Big Brother was averaging 5.21 million viewers per episode in a week of multi-platform viewing, up 10 percent year to year and on pace for a second straight season of ratings growth. Its audience was also up 21 percent among adults 25-54 and 15 percent among adults 18-49, the kind of split that keeps a long-running series relevant beyond its core audience.
Big Brother and 5.21 million viewers
5.21 million viewers per episode puts Big Brother among the top 10 shows of the summer across all platforms, a rare position for a broadcast series built around multiple airings each week and live-feed usage that can keep minutes accumulating long after an episode ends. The 1,000th-episode mark arrives in season 28, even though most seasons of Big Brother run between 30 and 40 episodes, which shows how quickly the franchise has cycled through installments.
Big Brother Unlocked, which airs on Fridays, also posted a lift: it averaged 3.14 million cross-platform viewers over seven days and was up 21 percent year to year. For CBS, that gives the franchise more than one weekly asset drawing meaningful audience volume, not just one flagship episode.
Love Island USA and the
Big Brother was also outpacing Love Island USA in seven-day viewing, with Nielsen putting Love Island USA at 3.8 million viewers over seven days. Love Island USA in June and July drew 10.87 billion minutes of watch time during its run, while Big Brother is on pace to top 15 billion minutes for the season including its round-the-clock live feeds, after drawing 8.6 billion minutes last year.
CBS also said 2.9 million Survivor viewers have watched at least a few minutes of Big Brother this season, up from 2.4 million last year, and among Survivor 50 viewers who also watch Big Brother, 37 percent have already watched more than half of this season’s episodes. That crossover gives the franchise a built-in sampler audience, but Thursday’s 1,000th episode is the cleaner test: a durable format still pulling bigger cross-platform totals than a buzzy streaming competitor. Dee Valladares is part of the cast carrying that run into the milestone hour.
