Miss Virginia Justus Kelley won who won Miss USA 2026 on Thursday night in Miami, taking the 75th annual Miss USA pageant after 51 women competed for the crown. The result gives Miss USA a winner whose profile matches the pageant’s newer rules and its newest judging priorities.
Miami crowns Kelley
Kelley was crowned at the Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts in Miami by Miss USA 2025 Audrey Eckert. She is 31 years old, a foster mom of two, a nonprofit founder, and a children’s book author, and she dressed exclusively in secondhand or sponsored clothing for pageants.
The final stages narrowed the field in a straight business-like sequence: the top 20 returned for swimsuit, the top 10 moved to evening gown, and the top five answered a final question. Earlier this week in Miami, the competition also included swimsuit, evening gown, and interview rounds during preliminaries, and this year’s contestants were judged on a new category called commercial appeal.
2023 rule change
The result carries more weight because the pageant only began allowing married women and mothers to compete starting in 2023. Kelley is the first married woman, first mother, and first woman in her 30s to win Miss USA, which makes her victory a direct test of how far the updated rules have reshaped the field.
During the final question, Kelley told the judges, “We are here tonight celebrating the 75th anniversary of Miss USA, but we also have an opportunity to make history tonight,” before adding, “I'm 31 years old, I'm married to my college sweetheart of nine years, and we are proud foster parents of two adorable siblings that absolutely have my heart.” She closed with, “What my year as Miss USA would mean and look like is no longer questioning if we have to choose between our ambitious careers, our families, and our wildest dreams,” and, “I'm standing on this stage embracing every part of who I am, and I believe that I can be your next Miss USA.”
Puerto Rico in November
Kelley will represent the United States at the Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico in November. The commercial appeal category suggests the job now extends beyond a single night: the winner is being selected not just to wear a crown, but to carry a brand-facing role into the next international stage.
