Severe thunderstorms swept across the Capital Region Thursday evening and pushed a Tornado Weather warning into portions of Saratoga and Washington counties. The National Weather Service in Albany also issued multiple Severe Thunderstorm Warnings as the line moved east through eastern New York.
Capital Region Thursday evening
The storms brought damaging winds, torrential rain, reports of downed trees, and power outages. The most intense weather arrived during the evening commute, when tree limbs blocked roadways and scattered outages began showing up across the region.
Reports of storm damage started coming in from across the region Thursday night, adding to the response already underway after the warnings were issued. Utility crews and local emergency responders were expected to keep assessing damage and restoring service into the overnight hours.
Saratoga and Washington counties
The tornado warning covered only portions of Saratoga and Washington counties, not the entire area affected by the storm line. Storms intensified north of the Capital Region as the warning was issued, but it was not immediately clear whether any tornadoes touched down.
