Derek McInnes has said Rangers have not received any concrete offers for Nico Raskin, despite ongoing conversations with clubs and growing speculation around the 25-year-old Belgium midfielder.
Raskin did not travel with the Rangers squad to face Jablonec in tonight's match because of a potential transfer, but McInnes said the club had not been presented with an actual bid.
McInnes on the Raskin situation
McInnes was clear that the noise around the midfielder had not yet turned into anything formal. “There have been no offers for Nico,” he said. “It’s just been quite a few conversations, so I don’t know where that was. Certainly not today, ahead of the game - I hadn’t heard anything.”
He added that the situation could still change, but insisted the club were not dealing with a completed move or anything close to one at the time of the match.
Why his absence mattered
McInnes also acknowledged that Rangers missed some experience in the middle of the pitch at times. “I did think we lacked a bit of experience in the middle of the pitch at times. I think any team would miss somebody like Nico, but I need to say that’s not the reason why we’ve lost tonight. We should still have enough in the building, as I said,” he said.
The comments came after Rangers lost 1-0 and then went out on penalties against Jablonec, a result that will only increase attention on squad selection and the club's midfield options going forward.
