Mbeumo finishes the job late
Bruno Fernandes had already completed a hat-trick earlier in the match, and Ipswich had led at one stage, but Manchester United's control grew as the second half went on. In the 73rd minute, Martinez played a ball to Rashford and Cunha later had a shot saved, a sign that United were beginning to find more space in the final third.
United then made a triple change in the 80th minute, with Rashford, Cunha and Mainoo replaced by Sesko, Dorgu and Andrey Santos. Five minutes later, Fernandes sent a through ball to Bryan Mbeumo, who finished past Scherpen in the 85th minute to add a late goal to the 5-2 win.
Busy closing minutes
Mbeumo was not finished being involved. In the 90+3 minute, he committed a foul and was booked, and two minutes later Dorgu nearly created another chance involving Mbeumo. In the 90+6 minute, Dorgu had a shot saved and won a corner as Manchester United kept pressing until the end of the eight added minutes.
The result underlined how quickly the game swung once Manchester United found another gear. Ipswich made it uncomfortable for much of the afternoon, but Fernandes' influence and Mbeumo's late goal helped turn a lively contest into a convincing home win.
