He entered the league as a 2021 second-rounder and has only 11 regular season passes for the Buccaneers, so his value has always been tied as much to experience and availability as to volume. That kind of profile can still matter on a practice squad, especially for a team that wants a designated emergency option nearby.
The Panthers may also be weighing the bigger picture around their depth chart. Bryce Young and Kenny Pickett are the names that matter most at the top, but Carolina’s willingness to keep Trask around would suggest the team still wants another steady hand in reserve. The report also says the Panthers may prefer to keep Haynes King because of his hamstring injury situation, which adds another layer to the evaluation.
