Simone Biles husband Jonathan Owens made the Indianapolis Colts' 53-man roster on Sunday, Aug. 30. The move puts the 31-year-old safety into his ninth NFL season and shifts the spotlight to Indianapolis, where Biles is expected to show up again on the sidelines.

The Indianapolis Colts unveiled the roster and kept Owens as one of the 53 players. That kind of final cut is where depth-chart fights turn into jobs, and a veteran safety with experience across the Green Bay Packers, Houston Texans, Arizona Cardinals and Chicago Bears cleared it.
Owens spent the last two seasons with the Chicago Bears before landing with the Indianapolis Colts. He broke into the NFL in 2018 as an undrafted free agent with the Arizona Cardinals, then worked his way into a longer run than most players get at the back end of a roster.

She attended the preseason game against the Falcons on Aug. 22 wearing a cropped Colts tank top, a small detail that now looks more like a preview than a one-off appearance. For a player trying to hold a roster spot, that kind of public family presence becomes part of the story whether teams want it or not.
The couple’s timeline also explains why this move has attention beyond one locker room. They met on the exclusive dating app Raya in 2020, got engaged in 2022 and were married in 2023, so Owens’ roster status now places Biles in a new football city tied to a relationship that has already followed him through several teams.
The Pivot contradiction
In late 2023, Owens said on The Pivot, "When she won the Olympics, I was in college and we didn’t have NBC. We didn’t have the Olympics channels and were in training camp." That comment sits awkwardly beside the public profile they now share, especially after he took time off from Bears training camp during the 2024 Summer Games to watch her compete in Paris.
Biles left Paris with three gold medals and one silver medal, and she has 30 world championship medals and 11 Olympic medals. She has not competed since Paris and has not said whether she will compete at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, so Indianapolis now becomes the next place where Owens’ football life and Biles’ visibility will overlap.
Owens has the roster spot, and Biles has already shown she will show up. What the Colts have not answered is how much playing time he will get once the season starts.
