A 51-year-old man died on Aug. 31 after stepping off a ledge inside Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, in an incident that prompted an emergency response at the University of Florida venue. University of Florida Police Department officers were first called to the west concourse at 9:47 a.m. after reports of an individual standing on a concrete support beam.
Kailey Tedjeske, the UPD public information officer, said officers attempted to speak with the man and encouraged him to walk toward them safely. After those efforts, the man stepped off the ledge. Alachua County Fire Rescue pronounced him dead at 10:05 a.m.
