Amario Cozier-Duberry’s future has been settled for now, with the 21-year-old agreeing a new contract with Brighton after a summer of interest from Rangers.
Rangers made approaches for the winger and had bids of £6million and £7.5million rejected, as Brighton stood firm over their valuation. The new agreement keeps Brighton in control of a player whose next step is now expected to be a loan move.
What Cozier-Duberry did last season
Cozier-Duberry spent last season on loan with Bolton Wanderers, where he produced nine goals and 13 assists in 37 appearances. That output helped keep him on the radar of clubs looking for wide attacking reinforcements this summer.
For Brighton, the contract extension means they retain an asset who has already shown he can contribute consistently in senior football. For Rangers, it closes one avenue of attack as they continue work on other options, including Vaclav Cerny and Kevin Kelsy.
The situation also underlines Brighton’s position throughout the summer: they were willing to listen to interest, but not on terms that fell short of their asking price. With the deal now done, the expected loan move should give Cozier-Duberry another chance to build on last season’s progress.
