Kyle Abbott has extended his Hampshire stay by another year, with the South African seamer now tied to the club until at least the end of the 2027 season. Abbott has been central to Hampshire's recent success since making his debut in 2014. He has taken more than 500 County Championship wickets for the club, reached his 500th first-class wicket against Essex earlier this season, and has continued to set the standard with the ball across long spells in Division One.
Abbott's record speaks for itself
The numbers are hard to ignore. Abbott took 55 Championship wickets in 2024 as Hampshire finished second in Division One, before following that with 56 wickets in 2025, a campaign that brought him the Rothesay County Championship Most Valuable Player award from the Professional Cricketers’ Association.
He has also taken 50 wickets in a Championship season six times and has done so with an average of under 20, underlining just how consistent he has been over a long period. For a bowler who arrived at Hampshire in 2014, this is not a short burst of success. It is a sustained body of work.
