Blackpool emerged as the new leaders in the League One table after a third Saturday of EFL action that kept reshaping the early-season picture. Their 4-0 win over Peterborough came earlier in the day, but it was the later results that made the table movement impossible to ignore, with Sheffield Wednesday scoring seven at home to Bromley and Bradford City losing 2-0 at Plymouth.
That combination meant Blackpool finished the day on top, underlining how quickly momentum can swing in the opening weeks. Three rounds in, the table already has a different look, and the headline change belongs to Blackpool.
Sheffield Wednesday’s seven-goal performance was the most eye-catching result of the afternoon, but Bradford City’s defeat was the one that mattered most to the top of the table. They had been in the mix at the start of the day, only for the 2-0 loss at Plymouth to open the door for Blackpool.
The same round also brought several other notable shifts across Leagues One and Two. Barnet drew 2-2 with Cheltenham, which ended their 100% record but still left them top of League Two. Walsall beat Accrington 3-2, York beat Exeter 2-1, and Bristol Rovers won 2-0 away at Crawley Town.
There were also warning signs elsewhere. Salford City lost away at Shrewsbury, while Rochdale suffered their third straight loss. By the end of the day, Salford City and Rochdale were still without a point after three games, which is already a serious problem this early in the campaign.
League tables in late summer can be misleading, but they still tell a story. Right now, the story in League One is that Blackpool have put themselves in pole position, while several rivals have already discovered how fragile an unbeaten start can be.
