Connor Barron has turned down a loan move to Hannover 96 and will remain at Rangers as the club continues its work to trim the squad before the transfer deadline.
The 24-year-old Scotland international had been linked with an exit before the window closed, with Hannover 96 reportedly proposing a loan deal that would have included an option to make the move permanent next summer. Sevilla were also said to have shown interest, but that approach did not progress because they could not free up a non-EU squad place.
Barron chooses to stay and compete
Rather than leave Ibrox, Barron has decided to stay and fight for his place. The move keeps him in Rangers' squad at a time when the club is trying to reduce numbers, and it suggests he believes there is still an opportunity to force his way into the manager's plans.
That is the key point here. Barron was not short of options, but the loan path to Germany was not one he wanted to take. Instead, he wants to compete for regular football, prove himself to Rangers and make a case for more involvement.
The situation also fits into a wider picture at the club. Lyall Cameron is set to join Dundee United on loan, and Rangers have been willing to let players move on where the fit makes sense. Barron, though, has made a different call and chosen to stay at Ibrox.
