JoJo Romero was reinstated from the injured list on Sept. 1 as the Milwaukee Brewers moved through baseball's roster expansion, restoring another arm to a bullpen that now sits at eight relievers.

The timing matters for Milwaukee because September brings a larger roster and more ways to manage pitching depth over the final stretch of the season. Romero's return gives the Brewers another left-handed option, which can be useful in a month when matchups and bullpen usage often become more flexible.

What Romero's return means

Romero's reinstatement is a straightforward move on paper, but it adds an important layer to the Brewers' relief group. With eight relievers available, Pat Murphy has more options when deciding how to navigate late-inning situations and tougher pockets in the lineup.

Murphy also pointed to the broader roster fit, saying it gives the team a chance to use Gary Sánchez more as a DH and adds a left-handed bat to the offensive mix. He described Romero as someone with major-league experience who still needs to learn the team's pitchers, but said the left-hander has been open to that process and called him a tremendous kid.

The Brewers have been active around the edges of the roster in recent weeks. On Aug. 1, they acquired Bo Naylor in a trade with the Cleveland Guardians, and on Sept. 1 he was recalled from Class AAA Nashville and rejoined the club. That sequence underscores how Milwaukee has used the expanded roster period to add depth and versatility in multiple spots.

For Romero, the next step is simply settling back in and giving Milwaukee another reliable bullpen option. For the Brewers, it is one more way to shorten games as the schedule moves deeper into September.
