Ezra Caudell remains in hospital after a serious crash at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic, with his team confirming on Tuesday that the 19-year-old is actively receiving care for multi-system trauma.
It was a worrying scene on Sunday during the one-day race, when Caudell was involved in a collision with Milan Menten halfway into the event. He was knocked unconscious before later regaining consciousness and being taken to hospital.

The immediate concern after the crash was not the race result, but Caudell’s condition. Multi-system trauma refers to injuries affecting two or more organ systems, which underlines why this has become a medical issue rather than simply a racing incident.
Modern Adventure Pro Cycling said: "Ezra remains hospitalized and is actively receiving care for multi-system trauma he sustained as a result of his crash at the Philadelphia Cycling Classic." The team also said he has "an incredible team working diligently and family at his bedside," and thanked people for their thoughts and ongoing support.
The focus now is on recovery
For a rider so young, the priority is simply that he continues to improve with the right care around him. Caudell’s team have not offered a timeline for any return, and at this stage that is not the question.
What matters is that the 19-year-old is still in hospital three days after the crash and is receiving treatment for a serious set of injuries. The cycling world will now be watching for positive updates, with support clearly building around him and those closest to him.
